What to show on your gym TV to keep members.
In a gym, retention matters more than acquisition. And retention starts in small details: the member who knows when their class is, who their coach is, what this month’s challenge looks like. The TV you’ve got tuned to a music channel can solve almost all of that.
The member doesn’t leave because they lack motivation. They leave because they lack clarity.
The gym business talks a lot about motivation and very little about logistics. The operational truth is that most cancellations happen because of confusion: the member doesn’t know what time class starts, doesn’t recognize the new coach, forgets when their plan expires, doesn’t know what’s happening in this month’s challenge. One month of doubt, one unpaid month, one month out the door.
The front desk does what it can. But asking the front desk to repeat the same schedule 5 times a day isn’t a good use of the member’s time or the staff’s time. The TV already hanging on the wall can take that job over, 24 hours a day, without getting tired or complaining.
Retention isn’t motivation. It’s making sure the member doesn’t have to ask the same question twice.
Six pieces that cut questions and boost attendance.
None of these pieces need a production budget. All of them can be built with your phone or Canva in 20 minutes. What matters is that they stay visible and get updated when the info changes.
Today’s and tomorrow’s group class schedule.
The single piece of info that pulls a member back tomorrow. Class name, coach in charge, spots available. Updates automatically if you’ve got a booking system.
Coaching team portfolio.
Photo, specialty, certifications, social handles. Trust in a gym is built by people, not by the logo. A member who recognizes coaches by name and face is far less likely to cancel.
Real member transformations and wins.
With permission, always. Before-and-after, short testimonials, deadlift PRs, first run without stopping. Social proof works best when it comes from people the member sees in the room.
Monthly challenge with a visible leaderboard.
A simple, measurable challenge with a visible leaderboard. Sparks conversation in the room, healthy competition, and one more reason to come back tomorrow. Updates weekly with nothing printed.
Active plans and referral promo.
Active plans, benefits, and the referral discount. A happy member refers more in a month than any ad campaign in three. The screen reminds them without anyone having to pitch it.
Music with synced branding.
If you run your own playlist, the screen can show the artist, the name of the active challenge, or just a subtle animated logo. The music is already there — use the screen to reinforce it visually.
Gym-specific things the screen can do.
- Use 01
Timer for circuit training.
Timer visible from anywhere in the room for intervals, rest, EMOM, tabata. Controlled from the coach’s phone. Removes the need for everyone to check their watch or phone during the workout.
- Use 02
Second screen for group classes.
In yoga, mobility, or functional classes, a second screen at the back shows the exercise sequence, rep count, or time remaining. The coach teaches without having to repeat instructions to every person.
These two uses turn the screen into an operational training tool, not just an info board. That’s where SONORO starts to differ from just “putting something on the TV”.
Without changing the TV, running cable, or calling anyone.
If you’ve got a TV at the front desk, another in the main room, and maybe a third in the cardio area, one SONORO panel controls all of them. General content at the front, timer on the functional floor, branded playlist in cardio. Each screen can show different content or the same — whatever you need.
The player plugs into HDMI on each TV, links to the gym’s WiFi, and from the owner’s or manager’s phone you upload the first content. 15 minutes per screen the first time, zero after that. If you’re a chain with multiple locations, the central panel manages every branch at once.
